Ghostbusters

All my life, since I was born, I have been a huge fan of this film. It’s one of the pictures that I see everytime I feel depressed, a movie that I know every line of dialogue without missing a beat. The reason for that love is obviously the characters, as our four main ghost busters are total misfits who are able to stand above adversity and be able to save the city, even when everyone thought they were a joke. Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in particular were favorites of mine. The script is hilarious, and has some really great dialogue and lines

“Back off, man. I’m a scientist.”

And even with all the comedy, I remember being scared by it. The demon dogs, the creepy-looking ghouls, Slimer, they all creeped me out when I was a kid. The third act, when the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man showed up, still makes me feel like a little kid.
I was completely Ghostbusters-obsessed. I had the action figures, watched the cartoon series religiously, even played the shitty video game for the NES. I would go to sleep with the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man doll, and would wear a proton accelerator toy, the one that showed pictures of ghosts, everywhere I went.

I don’t know how to express myself anymore than that, since this is a film that I hold dearly in my heart and will love until the day I die. It’s by far my favorite film of the Eighties. But then again, the Eighties were a great time for movies. Here are my top 10 favorite movies from the Eighties:

Ghostbusters
Escape From NY
Aliens
Brazil
Robocop
John Carpenter’s The Thing
Evil Dead
The Goonies
Blade Runner
Near Dark
