Varla and her two stripper cohorts are on their day off, having some kicks and riding some cars. With her hot temper, Varla kills a man who imposes a threat for her, so they take the man’s girlfriend and land in a farmhouse where a sick old man lives with his two sons. When Varla finds out about a stash of money hidden in the house, the girls go in to befriend the man, but it turns out this old man isn’t as defenseless as he looks, and might be more bloodthirsty than Varla herself.
This is my 2nd favorite movie of all time, right after Taxi Driver. It has everything I love about movie-making and more. Russ Meyer was one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, a producer, cameraman and director who made some of the most imaginative, action-packed and sexiest movies of all time, and this is his masterpiece. He shows off his great camera work and kickass editing styles, in a way pre-dating the action editing we see today. The stark black and white photography only helps to make the locations bigger than life, as well as the characters. And for the characters, they’re some of the most incredible. The three women leads, played by Tura Satana, Haji and Lori Williams are all over the top, with Satana being in the lead. She kicks ass, locks hot and talks loud and with authority, making it believable she could be a power-mad killer. On the other side of the border, the legendary Stuart Lancaster is excellent as the crazy old man, demanding craziness of his sons while raving about the evils of women, and the one that took his legs. He should have been nominated to an academy award. So check this movie out, it’s one of the greatest in history and will always be.
