John Waters’ most mainstream film, a juvenile delinquency musical starring the then teen idol Johnny Depp, is one of his most famous productions. And it’s easy to see why, it’s very cute and mainstream but without insulting your intelligence. It deals with the always-running battle between squares and rockers, and the love affair that occurs between two of them. While only two of the original Dreamlanders appear in almost unnoticeable roles, the cast is still pretty good. Johnny Depp steals the show, as you might imagine, with his dancing and “singing” and just damn good acting. You could tell even in this early film that he was gonna be a star someday. The rest of the cast includes Ricky Lake, former porn queen Traci Lords, Iggy Pop, Polly Bergen and Susan Tyrell. I would love to see another movie with Amy Locane tho, she’s very beautiful. Anyway this is a fun and entertaining film for all.
